Antiken & Antiquitäten

Während Antiquitäten in ihrer Begrifflichkeit alle Objekte umfasst, die mindestens 100 Jahre alt sind, ist die Definition für sog. Antiken etwas schwammiger. Man könnte die Periode der Antiken zwischen den Anfängen der Menschheit und etwa dem Frühmittelalter ansiedeln.

While antiques are quite clearly defined as objects that are at least 100 years of age it is less obvious how "young" an antiquity could be. As a rule of thumb one would accept objects of a period between the dawn of mankind and the dark ages as an antiquity.
